Patient Care
Ward Routine
There is very little actual ward routine and you will be encouraged to follow your home routine as much as possible. The older children spend much of their time in the playroom, where our nursery nurse organises activities according to the ages of the children on the ward.
We hope that you will feel able to continue with the general care of your child, such as washing and feeding, but the staff are there to help and support you. You will not be expected to do anything you do not feel able to, and staff will be happy to give advice if there is anything you aren't sure about.
Getting Information about the Patient
The doctors and nurses are happy to discuss your child's condition and treatment with you, but medical information will only be disclosed to others with your permission. The doctors ward round is one of your chances to ask questions about your child's progress. this usually takes place at about 08.00 hrs and it might help to write down your questions as you think of them.
Please ask again if you don't understand the explanation, or if you have forgotten something you were told previously. If you wish to speak to the doctor in private, ask the nurse to arrange this for you.
