The specialist physiotherapy service can offer a range of input from one off advice, through to exercise prescription, on the appropriate amount of physical activity for young people with heart disorders.
How we may be able to help
These are a few examples of when the specialist physiotherapist might be able to help and advise families; you may have some other questions:
° To help you back to full activity after heart surgery or other procedures.
° If you do not know whether or not you need to limit your activities due to your heart condition.
° If you would like to take part in physical activity, sports or other leisure activities, but are not sure how to make a start, or whether a particular sport or activity is safe or suitable for you to do.
° To help you reach a better level of fitness in line with government and public health guidelines.
° If you want to know more about your heart condition and how it may be affected by exercise.
° If you have difficulty with physical activities at school and/or school do not understand about exercise related to your heart condition.
This service is for any family in the Yorkshire & North Derbyshire region that have a child with a heart condition under the care of the Congenital Cardiologists in Leeds.
The service operates: weekdays 08.00 – 16.30 hrs. There is an answer phone where messages can be left & calls will be returned later.
