The Yorkshire and the Humber Congenital Cardiac Network covers the Yorkshire and the Humber region along with North Derbyshire and Bassetlaw. The network was established in 2005 and supports the following specialised service areas:
The Network enables clinicians, managers and commissioners to work together to improve congenital cardiac services in the region.
Aims of the Network
• To consistently provide the highest possible quality care to patients with congenital heart defects across the whole region. Care should be delivered in an environment which is appropriate to the complexity of their condition, but still be as close to their home as possible.
• To create a more cohesive high quality service where expertise is concentrated in a small number of specialist centres and at the same time awareness of congenital heart disease in other parts of the NHS, including primary care, is raised
• To address geographical inequities in access to and quality of care
• To provide a forum for training for medical staff and allied health care professionals
• To enhance strategic planning for future needs
• To provide a forum for patients to influence their services
