New information sheets for teenagers
In collaboration with nurses and young people, the BHF has produced a series of fact sheets for young people. These sheets will hopefully enable young people to understand more about their condition as they start to take more responsibility for their own health. They focus on youth issues such as the risk of endocarditis from tattooing and piercing, and aim to encourage discussion about lifestyle choices that may need extra consideration for these young people such as considering
contraception and physical activity.
The first six titles in the series are available to order now:
C1T: Aortic stenosis
C2T: Coarctation of the aorta
C3T: Large ventricular septal defect
C4T: Pulmonary stenosis
C5T: Tetralogy of Fallot
C6T: Transposition of the great arteries
They can be ordered from BHF by phone: 0870 600 6566
or email: orderline@bhf.org.uk.
Feedback on the Outpatient Clinic Nurses Afternoon 30 June 2010
This was the first time that we had incorporated the clinic nurses study day into the Paediatric Cardiology Network meeting. It was held at Rotherham District Hospital and we joined with the network meeting in the morning, when there were updates on the reconfiguration of tertiary cardiac services and talks about patient satisfaction in the clinical genetics service and an audit of patient held records. After a very nice lunch we met separately and heard about the role of the Clinical Psychologist from Dr Kat Baker, the role of the cardiac liaison nurse after a new diagnosis and also observations in clinics. We hope to build up a resource on the website that will include presentations from the study days and ‘observations in clinics’ is now available.
One of the most beneficial aspects of the nurses meeting is to be able to meet with each other and share ideas, each clinic is unique and it is inspiring to be able to learn from each other. We feel that it was a great success to join with the network meeting and so will continue with this formula and meet every six months.
Date of Next Meeting
Our last meet ing was on 6 January 2011 in Grimsby.
