This is a new role to work alongside the cardiac specialist nurses and cardiologists. The role of the clinical specialist physiotherapist is to provide help and advice on all physical activity issues for young people with congenital heart conditions. These are a few examples of when/how the physiotherapist might be able to help:
• If you are not sure whether a particular sport/activity is safe or suitable for you to take part in.
• If you have difficulty with physical activities at school and/or school do not understand about activity and your heart condition.
• If you would like to take part in physical activity/leisure activities but do not know what to do.
• If you do not know whether or not you need to limit your activities.
• To help you achieve the level of fitness you are comfortable with.
• To help you back to activity after heart surgery or other procedures.
• If you want to know more about your heart condition and the effects of exercise.
